GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – A fire in a dormitory at Berkshire Meadows, a school for the developmentally disabled, resulted in $250,000 worth of damage June 25, according to The Berkshire Eagle.
Officials believe the fire started in the 12-resident dormitory due to an electrical short in the attic. The fire took 30 minutes to extinguish, and the building suffered from water and smoke damage.
The fire was reported around 8:45 p.m. In less than a minute, the staff and residents had fully evacuated the premises.
Parents and the appropriate state mental health and insurance agencies were notified about the fire.
