Few Details Released after Patient Dies in D.C. Hospital

A hospital in Washington, D.C. held a press conference October 5 to address an incident where a patient died following a confrontation with two hospital security officers.

The patient, whose identity has not been released, died at MedStar Washington Hospital Center on the evening of October 1 near the hospital’s main entrance, according to wusa9.com. The two officers involved have been put on administrative leave.

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating, although the hospital is also conducting its own investigation. Autopsy results are pending.

The hospital’s statement expressed their condolences but didn’t include the patient’s name, condition or information on why he was being treated. One staff member said the victim’s family wanted privacy.

The hospital employs armed security officers, although neither officer is believed to have drawn his weapon in the confrontation.

The hospital also said the incident was caught on surveillance cameras but declined to say whether or not they’ll release the footage.
