HARRISBURG, Penn. — Federal authorities are investigating the possibility of a cover-up at Penn State, as well as bribes, fraud or misuse of federal funds.
A subpoena received by the university on Feb. 2 asks for records of payments made by university board members to third parties, records of complaints or out-of-court settlements regarding former coach Jerry Sandusky, computer hard drives and correspondence with Sandusky’s children’s charity, CNN reports. These requests indicate that federal authorities are conducting an investigation that is focused on the university, rather than Sandusky’s alleged victims.
The Pennsylvania attorney general’s office claims that Sandusky sexually abused eight boys on the Penn State campus, the Associated Press reports. Another boy was allegedly abused in Florida and Texas; and yet another alleged victim was abused at his own school.
A spokesman for the attorney general’s office declined to comment on the federal subpoena, the Associated Press reports.
