TALLAHASSEE — The Florida A&M University Board of Trustees doled out a no-confidence vote to president James Ammons in the wake of a hazing scandal and ongoing management problems.
Ammons has no plans to step down and the vote will not necessarily end his tenure, the Sun Sentinel reports. The vote comes a few days after the board received a letter from the chairman of the Board of Governors that oversees the state university system, demanding that Ammons be held accountable for a “number of serious issues.”
The letter listed “matters that have arisen or persisted this past year that should be included in Dr. Ammons’ [job] evaluation,” including: the ineligibility of 100 of the school’s band members, the response to whistle-blower complaints regarding fraudulent audit summaries, FAMU’s response to reported sexual assaults of minors at the university’s Developmental Research School and issues raised by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools about the hazing scandal and FAMU’s ongoing financial problems.
