NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The family of slain Yale University graduate student Annie Le is considering suing the institution for negligence in her killing.
Le, 24, was last seen on the morning of Sept. 8, 2009, when a security camera recorded her entering a research building. Her body was discovered five days later behind a wall in the lower level of the building. Her accused killer, 25-year-old Raymond Clark III, was an animal technician in the building where Le conducted her student experiments.
The Le family has hired an attorney and a private investigator to establish whether university security or the police responded swiftly enough to save the victim, according to The New Haven Register.
Additionally, the team will investigate whether Yale officials checked Clark’s credentials and background before hiring him. As it stands, the suspect’s fiancée, sister and brother-in-law also worked in the Animal Resources Center. Furthermore, in 2003, Clark’s girlfriend at the time told police he forced her to have intercourse. Though she did not press charges and he wasn’t arrested, the Le family attorney believes his behavior displayed violent tendencies, which put students, faculty and staff at risk.
The family would sue Yale for negligent hiring and negligence in security if a lawsuit is filed.
