DETROIT — The family of a man who was killed Saturday has accused security officers at Sinai-Grace Hospital of detaining and assaulting the victim’s friends as they were trying to take him to the emergency room.
Michael Haynes, 24, was shot after arguing with a gas station attendant, The Detroit News reports. Haynes’ friends took him to the hospital and asked the security officers to help; instead, they allegedly spent 20 minutes handcuffing and detaining the friends while Haynes was bleeding in the car.
Hospital officials said that Haynes was seen immediately after arriving at the emergency room. They maintain that the security officers acted appropriately.
