Two former members of a banned fraternity at State University of New York in Geneseo pleaded guilty to criminal negligent homicide for the death of a 19-year-old pledge.
Sophomore, Arman Partamian, was discovered dead at his off-campus apartment in March from alcohol poisoning after three days of heavy drinking at PIGS, a non-Greek organization that is not recognized or overseen by the college. Partamian had a blood alcohol level of .55, nearly seven times the legal limit for driving.
According to the TimesUnion.com, Alex Stucki, 21, must complete 500 hours of community service, while Devin McClain, 22 must complete 250. If the pair had been convicted during a trial, they could have received up to four years in prison.
Stucki was expelled from the school because of his role in the incident. McClain was fired from his on-campus job in the school’s cafeteria. Both were sentenced to four months of weekends in jail.
In September, another student involved in the incident, Daniel Welch, 21, pleaded guilty to unlawfully dealing with a Partamian. Welch was sentenced to three months of weekends in jail.
Partamian’s death prompted New York state officials to look into how campus police handle cases of underage drinking on campus.
