Evolutionary Biology Lab Receives Threatening Messages from Religious Group

Published: July 11, 2007

BOULDER, Colo. – Police at the University of Colorado (CU) are currently investigating a series of threatening messages E-mailed to the ecology and evolutionary biology department at CU-Boulder and slipped under the laboratory doors.

The department received the first threat via E-mail on Friday, July 6. The following Monday staff discovered envelopes with intimidating documents beneath the lab doors of the Ramaley Biology building.

Although who wrote and delivered the messages remains uncertain, they included the name of a religious group and addressed the ongoing evolution-creationism debate. CU Police Cmdr. Brad Wiesley would not identify the group. However, he did say the messages stated that anyone who did not agree with their religious beliefs was wrong and should be dealt with.

Wiesley said police are increasing surveillance inside and around CU science buildings.
