UNION CITY, Calif. – A 14-year-old boy was murdered in front of Barnard-White Middle School Dec. 21.
The victim, Vernon Matthew Eddins, was shot as a result of an argument between an African American and Latino group. Officials say the city is currently experiencing a gang war and that racial tensions are high.
At the time of the shooting, school was not in session. Despite this, some students were at school, so for about an hour faculty members kept the children in their classrooms while police searched for the suspect.
No one has been arrested in connection with the murder.
