Elementary School Scans Visitors for Sex Offences

FREDERICKSBURG, Pa.
Published: May 26, 2009

On May 15, officials at Fredericksburg Elementary School implemented a new security measure that determines whether visitors are sex offenders, according to pennlive.com.

Thanks to software by School Gate Guardian, visitors at the school will now have their driver’s licenses scanned to verify whether or not they are sex offenders. According to the news source, it takes about 20 seconds to scan a license and compare it to a nationwide database of 600,000 sex offenders. Following the scan, a photo badge, which will fade in 12 hours, is printed out.

Installation of the system cost $2,000 per site, with an annual fee of about $900.
