LOS ANGELES – Eighteen college newspapers published a collaboratively written and identical editorial protesting the University of Southern California’s (USC) interference in the reelection of Zach Fox to his post as editor in chief of the Daily Trojan, the school’s student-run newspaper.
The editorial suggests Fox’s reelection was blocked because he was too vocal in requesting access to the paper’s financial and budgetary information. According to the editorial, it is common practice at most schools for a paper’s student staff to have access to such information. The piece further claimed that “interventions like this […] compromise journalistic integrity and tarnish the development of the next generation of journalists.”
Zach Fox resigned on Nov. 28 in protest of the administration’s rejection of his reappointment.
