YPSILANTI, Mich. — A student who claimed he was robbed at gunpoint Friday night at Eastern Michigan University (EMU) has recanted his statement after police discovered that there was no surveillance footage of the alleged incident.
A 21-year-old student, whose name has not been released, told police that four men robbed him with a handgun at a parking lot on campus, AnnArbor.com reports. Several security cameras monitor the lot, and authorities were not able to find footage that backed the student’s allegations.
It is unclear why the student, who could face dismissal from EMU, made the false claims.
