DURHAM, N.C. – In response to two recent bus shootings, the city of Durham will increase security of its buses for the next 30 days. More city officers will be allotted for security on the city buses, as well as for patrols at the city’s bus depot.
On Jan. 7, a 17-year-old boy was shot several times while riding one of the public buses. Another shooting occurred Dec. 26 and was fatal.
The Durham Area Transit Authority (DATA) has several bus stops bordering Duke University, and many of the school’s employees use the system to commute to and from work.
