DURHAM, N.C. – A committee appointed to review Duke University culture released a report recommending the university alter campus social life to include more nonalcoholic events.
In response to last year’s highly publicized Duke lacrosse rape investigation, the committee was formed to review student social behavior on campus. In its report, the committee said the university should change student housing policies, make its drinking policies more strict, and reduce practice and travel time for student-athletes. It also concluded that the risk of “alcohol-related death in the Duke community is very real” due to a social life all too often centered around alcohol consumption.
