ST. LOUIS — A military officer who was completing his residency in psychiatry at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH) filed a civil lawsuit against the facility Jan. 25, claiming that he was beaten by security twice, thrown in mental hospitals against his will and falsely accused of worshiping Osama bin Laden by staff.
Oladimeji Alade began the program at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in March 2008 because there was a need for psychiatry experience in the army reserves, St. Louis Today reports. Alade said in the suit that on July 8, he went to pack up his office and was stripped naked and beaten by security personnel. Security also confiscated his personal computer.
According to Alade, the security officers said they would arrest him because he had been terminated several weeks prior, the Courthouse News Service reports. Alade told them they were misinformed. After the alleged beating, Alade claims the officers took him to a hospital miles away, and falsely claimed to emergency room workers that he was schizophrenic.
When Alade was released the following morning and returned to BJH to claim his computer, the lawsuit claims he and his brother were confronted by security, according to the Courthouse News Service. The officers beat Alade again, this time in front of security cameras. Alade was charged with assaulting the officers and held against his will at St. Alexius Hospital. The charges were later dropped.
The suit also states that hospital officials falsely claimed that Alade worshipped Osama Bin Laden, FOX 2 Now reports. The FBI investigated the claim and did not find any evidence.
