Doctor Photographs Patient’s Tattooed Privates During Surgery
PHOENIX – After taking a photo of a patient’s tattooed genitals during an operation, a surgeon is facing a disciplinary hearing.
The 27-year-old patient underwent a gallbladder operation on Dec. 11 at Mayo Clinic Hospital. On Dec. 17, he received a phone call from a doctor who was present during the surgery.
The doctor told the patient that there was a problem with the surgery and Chief Resident of General Surgery, Dr. Adam Hansen, would explain further. Hansen had taken a photo of the patient’s tattooed penis, which reads “Hot Rod,” while inserting a catheter.
Hansen told the patient he wanted to explain the situation before the story appeared in the newspaper. Hospital officials said a full investigation will take place over the incident.
Hansen could possibly face probation or a dismissal. He is currently on administrative leave. For his part, the patient plans to seek an attorney.
