DALLAS and NEW CANAAN, Conn. —The Dallas Independent School District (DISD), as well as the New Canaan Town Council have approved funds to help increase security in schools.
The DISD board members voted to spend $4.5 million to install an intercom, eight-camera surveillance system, employee card readers and peepholes in 1,400 portable buildings, CBS DFW reports. The district will take the money for the upgrades, which will start in May, from a 2008 bond program.
In New Canaan, the town council approved a special appropriation of $133,690 for campus security monitors at all elementary schools, as well as two middle schools. Additionally, school officials will use the funds to install locks that can be locked from inside the classroom, radios and batteries, New Canaan News reports.
