DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. — The Douglas County School District has set aside $10,000 to continue employing a policy that tests high school students for drug use. This school year, two students tested positive for marijuana and another refused to take the test, which is treated the same as a positive test.
Students who participate in “privileged activities” such as sports or clubs at the county’s four public high schools are randomly drug tested, the Douglasville Patch reports. The students are randomly selected by a computer based on their student identification number.
Board member Sam Haskell said that the policy, which is now in its fifth year, dissuades students who would otherwise use drugs.
