SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J. — The South Plainfield school district Board of Education has received a $35,506 grant from the New Jersey School Boards Association’s Insurance Group to install security cameras on its campuses. The district, which has already installed cameras at its high school and middle school, will install cameras at its upper elementary school and add cameras to its high school campus.
The elementary school, which serves approximately 500 fifth and sixth graders, has not experienced any significant security problems. However, it is close to Plainfield where crime rates are higher, MyCentralJersey.com reports. Cameras will help to improve safety at the rear of the school, which is largely isolated.
The cameras will be installed in the summer of 2011 and are equipped to record. The cameras will be monitored by school personnel.
