District Policy Would Require Parents to Show ID

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Officials from Murfreesboro City School District are considering a new policy that would require parents to present a form of identification if they pick up their child early from school.

Currently, Scales Elementary requires parents to present an ID, WSMV reports. The parent is only required to do so the first time; after that, a photo is taken of the parent and stored on a computer. Up to five people can be authorized to pick up a child.

The school board is looking to make this a requirement at all of the district’s schools; however, some opponents are concerned that parents who are in the country illegally would not be able to comply.
