EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. —The East Providence School Department has begun work on a district-wide construction project. The project is being funded by $27 million in bonds.
Phase one of the project, which addresses life safety, will correct fire systems and other safety systems that are outdated or not up to code, the East Providence Patch reports. The project will also provide energy-related systems and equipment, including lighting, heating system upgrades, water conservation and weatherization.
The project will be taking place for the remainder of the summer and will continue into the school year. Officials said it will be completed by the end of 2012.
