SAINT PAUL, Minn. – A 13-year-old disabled male is alleging he was sexually assaulted by his personal care attendant at Regions Hospital’s trauma unit.
The patient was found crying and alone in his wheelchair on May 31 and told Regions security he had been molested in the hospital’s shower by the caretaker hired by his parents. Security officers then found the suspect, Edward Thomas McCoy, 38, in the shower cleaning up excrement.
McCoy was then charged with first-degree criminal sexual misconduct. He was staying with the boy’s family and being paid $50-$60 a day to care for the child.
This is the second time in six months a sexual assault has reportedly taken place at the hospital.
