The Detroit Public Schools district has cut its chief of security and others in its central office staff in an effort to save the district $16 million. Even with the cuts, the district’s budget is still “in the red.”
The positions of Chief of Security Charles Mitchell, 11 central office administration executives and several assistant superintendents were eliminated as part of the budget cuts.
According to the Emergency Financial Manager, this is just the first round of cuts and some departments, such as transportation, could be privatized.
