A New Orleans Sheriff’s Office deputy was shot three times while directing traffic in a school zone Thursday morning.
Cpl. Burt Hazeltine was directing school zone traffic around 9 a.m. April 16 on Highway 90 in Louisiana when he was shot multiple times. According to police Hazeltine was hit in the elbow, eye and chest. The Sheriff’s Office said Hazeltine is suffering from internal bleeding because a bullet is lodged behind his left eye.
Police arrested a suspect soon after the shooting, although his identity is still unknown, according to wdsu.com. Authorities do not believe Hazeltine was targeted.
Hazeltine is in stable condition in University Hospital in New Orleans.
