DELAWARE – Delaware County installed The Police Alert for School Safety silent alarm system in many of its K-12 schools.
The alarm systems, also known as DelPASS, are located in the schools’ main office, where security camera footage can be viewed. Once a button is pushed, the system sends an alert to 9-1-1 dispatchers. From there, dispatchers can communicate with the school through a two-may mic and notify police, reports NBCPhiladelphia.com/.
DelPASS is specific to Delaware County, but is being considered by other counties as well.
“We hope there is never a situation where we need to use this, but if so we are prepared,” said County Council Chairman Tom McGarrigle. “The safety of our students and teachers is a top priority.”
