DOVER, Del. — The Medical Society of Delaware and Beebe Medical Center have agreed to place $123 million in a trust as a settlement in a class-action lawsuit filed on behalf of victims of a former pediatrician who sexually abused many of his young patients for more than a decade.
In December 2009, police arrested Earl Bradley, 59, after a young girl told her mother that the doctor hurt her during an office visit. Investigators later found scores of Bradley molesting children, mostly toddlers, in the pediatrician’s home, reports the Associated Press.
Before convicting Bradley, a judge saw more than 13 hours of footage showing sex crimes against more than 80 victims. The former doctor is currently serving 14 life sentences for child rape.
After Bradley’s arrest, authorities determined that medical society officials, individual doctors and the Delaware Department of Justice violated state law for failing to report possible unprofessional behavior to the medical licensing board. The board also faced criticism for not acting on the information it did receive about Bradley.
