A Ferrum College student was shot and killed on Nov. 17 by a deer hunter that allegedly mistook the student for an animal. A second student was injured.
According to TimesNews.net , three students were collecting frogs for a biology class along a trail a mile from the campus. Jessica Goode, 23, was shot in the chest and died from her injuries. The second student sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Jason David, 31, is charged with manslaughter, reckless handling of a firearm and trespassing. According to WDBJ7.com, David was hunting on county property where hunting is prohibited when he allegedly shot the students.
