WASHINGTON – A new security plan implemented by Chancellor Michelle A. Rhee at Woodrow Wilson Senior High School prompted nearly 100 high school students to protest on March 31.
The new short-term plan involved doing away with the students’ free lunch period, requiring that they eat their boxed meals in their classrooms. The change in policy was in response to the recent arrest of 13 students for fighting. Rhee implemented the policy until a more permanent solution can be devised.
The protest, which took place on the football field was peaceful. Students also expressed their objection to the new policy by wearing armbands.
