HALIFAX, Nova Scotia — Dalhousie University officials have suspended the women’s hockey team for the remainder of the season after discovering that the squad participated in a hazing ritual that involved excessive drinking, intimidation and humiliation.
The university conducted an investigation after a parent approached the team’s coach with concerns about the treatment of new players, the National Post reports. Although no one was physically hurt, the university concluded that team players were put in harm’s way both physically and psychologically during a private house party in September.
All team captains have been removed from their positions, while all but first-year players have been suspended. The entire team will undergo training on the university’s hazing policy.
