Conn. District Adds Cameras to Improve School Safety

Published: July 19, 2010

MADISON, Conn.—Officials for Madison Public Schools will install surveillance cameras at all of the district’s schools.

The system, which will cost about $65,000, is expected to be completed by fall, according to the New Haven Register. The cameras will focus on building entrances, exits and some parking lot areas. Cameras will not be inside buildings.

The program was introduced by a school safety team, which is comprised of representatives from the police and fire departments, the directors of facilities, health and school administration and the town engineer.

The school safety team is also focusing on traffic concerns around the district’s four schools. New school zone warning signs have been posted near all the public schools, and speed bumps have been installed around Polson Middle School and Daniel Hand High School.
