NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — The city of New Britain has requested Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) reimburse the municipality more than $13,000 after it sent dozens of officers to respond to a reported gunman on campus on Nov. 4.
CCSU issued a lockdown after students called 911 reporting that a man, dressed in military-style gear, was walking on campus with what appeared to be a gun and a sword. During the lockdown, the city sent 62 officers — half of the city’s police force — to check out scene, Orange Patch reports.
Authorities later found the suspect, David Kyem, 21, after a three-hour search. Police later determined that Kyem was walking back to his dorm room wearing a Halloween costume he had on at a weekend party at the University of Connecticut.
