Colorado, Washington Legalize Marijuana Sales

DENVER and SEATTLE — Voters in Colorado and Washington voted on Tuesday to legalize the possession and sale of marijuana for recreational use.

Under the measures in both states, anyone at least 21 years of age can legally possess up to an ounce (28.5 grams) of marijuana, Reuters reports. The initiatives will also allow pot to be legally sold and taxed at state-licensed stores in a similar way that alcohol is retailed.

In Colorado, citizens of legal age will be able to cultivate up to six marijuana plants; however, Washington has banned its residents from growing their own weed.
