Effective Aug. 1, all weapons will be banned from Colorado State University’s (CSU) Fort Collins and Pueblo campuses.
On Feb. 23, the CSU Board of Governors unanimously approved the plan, reports Coloradoan.com. CSU officials believe that by reducing the number of weapons on campus, safety will improve.
Students, faculty and staff would be directorially banned from carrying weapons on campus under the ban. Those visiting campus grounds with a weapon will be asked to either lock it up or leave the premises. Failure to comply with the rule will result in the person being banned from campus with the equivalent of a trespassing ticket.
While faculty and staff support the ban, some students and concealed weapons groups oppose it. In early February, the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners threatened a lawsuit, claiming that state law prohibits the university from barring legally carried concealed weapons from campus.
