MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. – Social scientists worldwide may have lost weeks of research after Dedoose, an academic cloud service, crashed on Monday.
The Manhattan Beach, Calif.-based Dedoose sent an E-mail to users informing them that the company experience a major meltdown a week ago and may not be able to recover recently added files, LA Times reports.
It is unclear how many users have been affected by the crash.
Additionally, the firm’s backup systems also suffered, and now Dedoose is working with Gladinet services to have non-corrupted data transferred to alternative storage locations.
So far, Dedoose has been able to restore data added up to March 2. Dedoose executives believe they can recover data that was lost through mid-April, but they are not optimistic that they will restore data added in the last three weeks.
