CHICAGO – More than 600 off-duty Chicago police officers who also work part-time as school security officers have experienced withholding errors on their paychecks.
Social Security contributions were not deducted from their pay, possibly for years. In November, they were sent a letter outlining a schedule for them to repay the missed contributions, but an official from the union representing the officers says it is not willing to have its members’ salaries docked.
The exact amount that is owed or when the withholding will commence has not been disclosed by Chicago Public Schools. In addition to the part-time security officers, other district employees have also experienced similar paycheck problems.
