CHICAGO — The success of a gang violence prevention outreach program has caused the Chicago Police Department to expand it to other high schools.
Since the program’s implementation in the Police Department’s Area 1 on March 8, students have sought to remove their gang-affiliated tattoos and leave their gangs, reports the Chicago Sun Times. Additionally, no students were murdered as a result of gang violence in Area 1’s high schools from March through June. Five students were murdered in the same time period last year.
The program has now launched in the Police Department’s Area 2 high schools.
