CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. – The mother of a 17-year-old student at Bloom Trail High School filed a lawsuit April 21 against the school’s principal, assistant principal and dean of students. Additionally, the lawsuit was filed against Bloom Township School District 206 and its superintendent.
Latonia Rogers filed the lawsuit on behalf of her son Ernest Rogers. The suit claims the student was pushed through a glass door by a security guard during a fight between two students on Feb. 7. Rogers was not involved in the scuffle.
Rogers had to be hospitalized and treated for injuries as a result of being handcuffed in the principal’s office while the guard, Cecil Cook, yelled threats at him, according to the lawsuit. While the police didn’t arrest Rogers, the school suspended him for five days.
The documents claim Rogers had his due process rights violated when he was suspended from school without a hearing. It also states that the student was falsely arrested and imprisoned by the school district, Cook and other guards.
