A teen armed with a chainsaw, a two-foot long sword and 10 pipe bombs attacked Hillsdale High School on August 24. The 17-year-old former student detonated two of the bombs on campus.
According to reports, Alex Youshock was wearing a tactical vest that held eight homemade pipe bombs. After the first two explosions that occurred in an empty hallway, three teachers tackled the suspect and held him down until police arrived on scene and arrested him. Investigators believe Youshock wanted to kill people with the bombs and then finish off the survivors with the sword and chainsaw.
The suspect’s apartment was also searched, where police found additional bomb-making materials.
More than 1,200 students and teachers were forced to evacuate to a nearby middle school. No one was injured during the explosions. The school is closed today.
Hillsdale High School, which participates in monthly emergency training, sent automated telephone calls to parents alerting them to the evacuation.
According to CBS5.com, police say the suspect had dropped out of Hillsdale and was angry at some of his teachers.
