MT. PLEASANT, Mich. — Professors at Central Michigan University are implementing strict security regulations to protect researchers and students from getting injured during lab experiments.
All students and faculty must partake in general lab safety training, as well as training led by lab managers across campus because many laboratories work with highly dangerous or flammable substances, CM Life reports.
Training includes learning where fire extinguishers and exits are located, reviewing chemical spills and emergency procedures and completing standard operating procedures.
Anthony Chappaz, an assistant professor of geochemistry, requires all volunteers to complete a two-month training session before beginning work in the lab.
Meanwhile, Valeri Petkov, a physics professor, requires all who work in the lab to undergo chemical materials safety training.
