Cell Phones Banned Near Houston School

Published: August 12, 2008

HOUSTON – A Houston neighborhood has banned the use of cell phones, including the use of hands-free devices, within a three-block radius of an elementary school during school hours.

According to city officials, the ban should help create a safer environment for students and clear traffic congestion surrounding the school in the mornings and afternoons.

The law will take effect Aug. 25. First-time violators will be fined $200. Any offenses after that can range up to $500.
