New statistics from the Center for Disease Control show that the annual influenza outbreak has reached widespread levels in 43 states, up from 36 last week.
This season, 21 children have died of the flu, specifically H3N2. The CDC warned that those most susceptible to the flu are children and the elderly, NBC News reports.
CDC officials said the best defense is to get a flu vaccine and to wash hands frequently.
