CCUPCA Sponsors Legislation to Prohibit Pellet Guns on College Campuses

Published: January 24, 2008

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The California College and University Police Chiefs Association (CCUPCA) announced that it will be sponsoring California legislation to amend bill PC 626.10 to prohibit the use of BB guns and pellet guns on college and university campuses.

The CCUPCA was encouraged to amend code PC 626.10 after receiving complaints from California security and police chiefs about pellet gun incidents. Currently, the code allows the use of pellet guns on university campuses, while other weapons, such as ice picks, knives and daggers, are strictly prohibited.

According to the current code, if someone is in possession of the weapons on a K-12 campus, it is considered a misdemeanor. However, it is not illegal to carry such items on a college or university campus.

It is still against the law to carry firearms on any campus in California.
