VISTA, Calif. — A former security officer was sentenced essentially to life Friday for a shooting spree at Kelly Elementary School in Carlsbad.
Brendan O’Rourke had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in the Oct. 8, 2010 shooting that left two students wounded, the Los Angeles Times reports. A jury ruled that he was sane, and convicted him of seven counts of attempted murder.
O’Rourke had jumped the fence at the school during recess and opened fire while screaming hysterically. He was sentenced to 189 years in prison.
