OTTAWA, Canada – The Trois-Rivières health agency will increase security measures in its hospitals’ maternity wards following the abduction of a newborn a Ville-Marie Hospital last month.
Valérie Poulin Collins, 21, kidnapped a one-day-old girl from the hospital on May 26. The child was returned within hours due to social media. The suspect has been charged with kidnapping and abduction.
Now, the Centre Hospitalier régional de Trois-Rivières plans to upgrade video surveillance and place electronic bracelets on newborns in the maternity ward, CBC News reports.
Meanwhile, officials at Gatineau Hospital plan to place electronic bracelets on all newborns as a new safety measure.

The hospital is currently raising funds to implement the new program.
