MONTREAL – The Commission Scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys School Board has deployed nearly 900 Hikvision IP cameras utilizing Milestone Systems XProtect video management software (VMS) to increase security throughout hundreds of schools in the district.

The school board tapped Alpha TSi to handle the large-scale project. The firm designs and installs access control, intercom, intrusion alarm and video surveillance solutions. The integrator also specializes in network security architecture.

The Milestone Certified Partner selected Hikvision cameras because they best met the school board’s specifications, Alpha TSi Vice President Phillipe E Bergeron says.
“Hikvision cameras have great image quality, impressive true WDR, motorized lenses that are easy to adjust using the Milestone VMS, and the edge storage precisely meets the client’s needs,” he explains.

The integrator installed fixed domes for indoors and outdoors. The cameras feature 1.3-megapixels, true wide dynamic range (WDR), true day/night technology, superior low-light performance, motorized lens for remote focus and remote zoom, and POE/High POE, according to Hikvision. Both camera types are fully integrated with the Milestone XProtect software including SD edge storage support.

The Milestone XProtect software provides three flexible client interfaces in 27 languages for the efficient administration of the system, the users, and the cameras that are distributed across the multiple sites. Live video is also recorded for fast searching in case of incidents, and easy sharing or export to authorities, according to Milestone.

“We were really impressed with Hikvision’s prompt customization for putting together a special firmware required by the scale of this project. This is the kind of service we just don’t see from everyone,” Alpha TSi President Sébastien Céré says.

So far, Marguerite-Bourgeoys School Board is impressed with its new security solution.

“The video quality provided by Hikvision cameras has been truly superb,” says Rémi Asselin, IT services director for Marguerite-Bourgeoys School Board. “Both Hikvision and Milestone products demonstrated outstanding functionality for educational facilities. We are very happy with the outcome.”
