Canadian University Reaches Contract Settlement with Security Staff

ONTARIO,  Canada — The Laurentian University Staff Union (LUSU) has reached a contract settlement with Laurentian University regarding the Security Guard Group. Now, the Security Guard Group will be fully integrated into the union.

The university’s security guards will now have job security and working conditions that are equal to those of union members, the university’s chief negotiator Branko Rayakovich told Northern Life. The arrangement allows Laurentian University to have 24-hour in-house security.

The settlement includes an increase in shift premiums. Security guard positions will be evaluated and salary adjustments will be phased in throughout the length of the contract.
