Campuses Continue to Invest in Emergency Notification Systems and Upgrades

Not surprisingly, the challenges associated with the use of mass notification systems have decreased in some areas. Four years ago, 24% of all survey respondents said they had difficulty determining when it was appropriate to issue an alert. Now only 16% overall say they are experiencing this problem. Message delivery verification issues have decreased from 30% in 2010 to 20% overall in 2014. Also, only 11% of overall respondents now say that the volume and intelligibility of their siren/loudspeaker systems are posing problems for them. In 2010, 20% indicated this was an issue. Despite the progress, however, database management, equipment maintenance and message throughput continue to be a challenge.
