Campus Safety Resources Available From COPS

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) has announced the availability of a several technical assistance resources intended to support school and campus administrators, parents, and community leaders as they work to enhance school safety and address youth related crime and victimization.

COPS free School Safety Package, contains practical guidebooks and CDs that address issues such as developing a successful school safety program and emergency response plan; assessing and reducing gang activity in your community; effective responses to reducing bullying in schools; responding to bomb threats against schools; community-based approaches to reducing underage drinking; dealing with disorderly youth who congregate in public places; preventing school vandalism and break-ins; and gun violence among youth.

“COPS is pleased to make our School Safety Package available to educators, communities, parents, and others concerned with protecting young people and ensuring school safety,” said COPS Director Carl R. Peed. “The School Safety Package contains resources that will help communities address many common disorder problems that take place in and around schools and can lead to criminal acts, violence, and a negative learning environment.”

COPS School Safety Pack is available free of charge, and can be ordered by contacting COPS Response Center at (800) 421-6770.

The COPS Office is a federal agency responsible for advancing community policing nationwide and supporting state, tribal, and local law enforcement agencies. Since 1995, COPS has invested $11.9 billion to advance community policing, including nearly 36,000 grants awarded to more than 13,000 state and local law enforcement agencies to hire more than 118,000 officers and provide numerous technical assistance resources.
