Campus Safety Conference Agenda Announced

Published: February 16, 2007

LOS ANGELES – TREXPO West and Campus Safety magazine announce the agenda for the Campus Safety Conference, which will take place on Tuesday, March 20 at the Long Beach (Calif.) convention center.

Campus police chiefs, public safety directors, municipal, county, state and federal law enforcement officers, as well as school and university officials, including administors, superintendants and principals, are invited to attend these seminars that will provide information critical in helping keep our nation’s campuses safe.

Below is the agenda for the conference:

  • 8-11 a.m., Keynote Presentation by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman: Lt. Col. Grossman will discuss a sensitive topic he has studied extensively: The reactions of healthy people in violent circumstances and the factors that prevent fatalities in these situations.
  • 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Exhibit Hall Open: Attendees are invited to roam the exhibition halls to see the latest tactical response gear from leading manufacturers.
  • 1-3 p.m., Gangs In Schools: Because gang activity is so prevalent in and around many of our nation’s campuses, schools can play an integral role in reducing this type of behavior, especially when they partner with local authorities to develop a holistic approach to the problem. This panel will discuss what school police, administrators, municipal law enforcement, communities and city or county officials can do to make this process easier and more effective.
  • 3-5 p.m., Bridging the Cultural Gap Between Schools and Traditional Law Enforcement: With the shootings and hostage standoffs that have taken place at schools and universities this past fall, now more than ever it is critical that campuses and local police work together to create a safe environment for students and the community. This panel will discuss the differences in mindset and approach between campus law enforcement vs. traditional law enforcement. It will specifically cover how both can collaborate to prevent, detect and respond to Columbine-type incidents.
  • 5-6:30 p.m., Industry Reception in the Exhibit Hall: Network with SWAT officers from various municipal agencies.
