BOULDER, Colo. and SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Police confiscated a two-pound, four-foot-long joint Saturday during a University of California, Santa Cruz 4/20 party.
A campus officer can be seen on video carrying away the large joint as partygoers follow with their cell phones recording video. One partygoer repeatedly threatens to “go to court” over the seizure.
The joint, which is worth up to $6,000, violated the legal weight limit of one ounce of marijuana, according to The Daily Mail.
Meanwhile, University of Colorado (CU) officials shut down the campus to prevent a massive 4/20 smoke out, which, in years past, has drawn as many as 10,000 people, the Denver Post reports. Dozens of law enforcement officers blocked off access to the university’s Norlin Quad with yellow tape and stationed various checkpoints around the property.
CU students participating in 4/20 events traveled to Denver’s Civic Center, where gunshots rang out around 5 p.m., resulting in a man and a woman being shot in the leg.
Each year, students throughout the nation celebrate April 20, or 4/20, by smoking marijuana on their campuses. “Weed Day” has become an unofficial marijuana celebration day in pot-smoking culture.
